Even though Nintendo Wii Game System competes with Xbox 360 and Playstation , it does very well and in fact it was difficult to find many games in this platform for Christmas. They introduced a new technology using a swingng motion with the controller so this put everyone at an equal footing . Baby boomers are used to using a remote control and not a joy stick but this still was an innovative use of it.

The menu of the Nintendo Wii Console is quite interesting. Not only is there the game you play but you can interact on the web with people, do email and check out their various channels. They update them and have added both weather and shopping. Often people don’t check on updates but this is important to do.

If you haven’t checked lately you can find the address book is now updated. The message icons are different, you can study your message history and register friends more easily.

You can check out older games by Nintendo and earn points to get them. This includes finding Nintendo 64 and Super Nintendo. Yeah they are a bit out of date but that’s what makes them fun and classics.

Did you have no luck finding Guitar Hero 3 for Nintendo Wii this Christmas. That’s because it was sold out almost everywhere and though you could find it for other game consoles like Xbox 360 and Playstation you couldn’t find it for the Wii. This is a very popular console due to the innovations and updates.

Don’t ignore the updates of Wii as they add channels that you’ll be using. They stay on top of the competition by adding in new interactive abilities and including all age groups . Don’t feel shy about trying it even if you are not a serious gamer or one who has dabbled in consoles.

Dollhouse Furniture

This year for Christmas, my sister in law bought my daughter a brand-new dollhouse. This dollhouse is about 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide, and is painted pink and purple. Though it is not in the biggest dollhouse I have ever seen, it certainly has a lot of play room for my daughter’s dolls. When my daughter opened the gift, my sister-in-law explained that the dollhouse furniture was on back order and would be coming soon. I have not seen these items yet, but if I go by what that dollhouse looks like, I can assume it is going to be very cool. I think my daughter will like it as well.

I am looking forward to seeing the dollhouse furniture that my sister in ordered. Though the dollhouse is not as big as some I have seen, there is plenty of room for the dollhouse furniture that is coming, and if you consider the size of her Barbie dolls it seems to be ok. I do not see my sister in law very often so she will be sending the furniture through the mail. Though the mail is very careful with things these days, I worry that the furniture may be broken en route to our house.

Because the dollhouse is made out of wood, I assume the dollhouse furniture that is being sent to us is made out of wood also.  I hope that it is made of sturdy material, because my daughter can be quite rough, as are most five year old girls. Most of the dollhouse furniture she has had in the past has been made of plastic, so I may have to tell her to be more careful when she gets her new furniture in the mail. The dollhouse may have been made for older children, and I guess that just means I will have to teach her to be more careful.

Since my daughter got her new dollhouse, it has been sitting in the corner untouched. I hope when the dollhouse furniture comes she will be more interested in playing with her new toy. It seems that many of her toys are forgotten because she has so many from which to choose. Perhaps the dollhouse furniture will be what she needs to get her interested again. I guess things just are not as they were when I was a child.  Back then, everything was interesting to no toy was left untouched.

TOKYO (AFP) — A Japanese importer is recalling 230,000 toys made in China due to excessive levels of toxic substances, an official said Wednesday, the latest in a wave of global recalls of Chinese goods. The recall, which began on Tuesday, covers toys that were sold from 2004 up to the beginning of December this year, an official of Marushin Toys said. According to the website of Japan’s Toy Association, the importer slapped fake safety labels on 16 items without the necessary authorisation or inspections. Chinese-made products ranging from seafood to car tires have been targeted in a spate of overseas safety recalls this year, with toys in the spotlight in recent months. More Toy News

That doesn’t usually leave a lot for the things they really want does it? But hitting the garage sale circuit is time consuming and if you’re looking for something specific it can be very aggravating to know that you might have to spend weeks to find it. I love to go round toy stores and look at the colorful items on display. Parents are very lucky these days with the vast choice of toys available, including baby toys. Some people put black and white mobiles up for the first few months, as it takes a while for baby to distinguish color shades. Cot mirrors are another good idea, as baby toys that fascinate will be appreciated and baby will never be lonely.

Appealing to all the senses is important and babies like to touch everything around them. Make sure all baby toys are made to a high standard, as all baby will want to do is put them in their mouths. Rattlers are good fun, they make a noise and baby can hold them. Teethers are good too as baby can chew them when teething. Soft toys are always a favorite. They give a tactile experience and are very comforting. Babies can become very attached to their favorite teddy bear.

Activity Centers are great fun. My kids had one that had a mirror, flashing lights and it made all sorts of different noises. It was worth its weight in gold because it kept them entertained for hours, and was one of the best baby toys we ever bought. There’s always some kind friend who buys them a drum to bang on!

Soft balls, rings and cubes are also available, which help baby to explore shape and texture. Parents can put on a show with finger and hand puppets. Bath time is a lovely activity for baby and parent. Here, more fun can be added with baby toys. There is the classic duck, which you can’t really surpass. There are also little boats and fishing nets.

As baby gets older, it’s a good idea to encourage them further with a set of building bricks, and toys that can be pushed and pulled. A baby walker with bricks in will encourage baby to want to stand and push it along. Baby toys are great fun and might stop Dad from buying them a train set until they’re a bit older.

Toy Shopping

I can’t wait to go toy shopping for the holidays this year. It’s always fun, and it’s something that I look forward to. There is nothing more relaxing than looking for the perfect toys, and I always know I am going to find the very toys that my daughter seems to want the most. I know that if I can’t find it in one store, I will most definitely find it in the next one that I go to. When my daughter gets older and doesn’t want toys to play with any more, I am going to miss toy shopping very much.

If you didn’t read the sarcasm in what I just wrote, you must not have young children. I never had a problem when I would go toy shopping for a relative or a friend’s child, but now that I have my own I have learned to loathe the very thought of it. Toy stores seem to bring out the worst in people. I am often surprised at how rude people can be when toy shopping. It never fails either, that I find out the very toy my little girl wants the most is nowhere to be found.

Last year when we went toy shopping we were looking for the Dora Talking House. I thought Toys R Us would certainly have it, but I was wrong. We looked everywhere we could think and no one had one. I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t even one of the most wanted toys that year. We panicked when we couldn’t find it, and I didn’t know what I was going to do. I don’t get her everything she wants, but I do try to get her the one thing that she wants the most, and last year it was the Dora house she wanted. In the end my dad went toy shopping and found it the day before Christmas. I was in tears when he told me he had found it for her.

If you loathe toy shopping like I do, you should try to get it done early, and if you can find something online, that might be the best way to buy it. If you go toy shopping on the day before Christmas, you are just asking for trouble. For me though, that is the best time. I have thought ahead this year and have gotten some of her presents early, but I will have to brave the crowds again this year at the last minute to get the rest of her gifts. Perhaps next year I will be able to get it all done early so I don’t have to be tempted to hurt someone.

Top 10 Kids Toys

When I was young, I was a tomboy. I played with the other boys in the street in games like soccer and cricket. I wasn’t remotely interested in dolls or anything girly. I didn’t want to do skipping games, in fact everything the girls in the neighborhood did looked very boring. My toys were also of the tomboy persuasion and I had 10 toys which I played with the most.

Rainy days were often spent inside with my fort. It was a well built fort with look out posts. The cavalry soldiers guarded it against the Indian invaders. It was probably the best of my favorite 10 toys. I also had a farm, which had pigs, horses, sheep and cattle. There was a big tree and a well. I made the farmer and his wife work very hard, milking the cows and driving the animals to market.

I also had racing cars which were a bit beat up but I loved them anyway. I gave each one the name of a racing driver, so there was Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham, Allan Clarke and Graham Hill. A list of favorite 10 toys has got to have cars in it. My train set was another beloved toy. The locomotive was a big, black one and it pulled several freight cars. There was a ticket office and people standing on the platform. Sometimes I put the budgie in one of the freight trucks and took him slowly round the track. He seemed to like it.

Westerns and cowboys were an obsession of mine. I loved TV series like Gunsmoke and Wagon Train, so I liked to put on my cowboy suit. It had a cowboy hat, waistcoat and six shooter in a holster. After seeing The Magnificent Seven, I pretended to be Steve McQueen and practiced my fast draw endlessly. The 10 toys I mostly played with would always include it. Another much used toy was my spinning top. I spun the top with the suede whip and tried to spin it as fast as possible.

I got to be quite adept at the yo-yo, after ages of practice. I would take it to school and show off to my buddies. Once I’d got into my rhythm, I could go on for a long time. A roll call of 10 toys today would not include one as they’ve gone out of fashion, which is a shame.

When I was a kid, there were few TV channels and computer games hadn’t been invented, so the 10 toys which occupied my time were very important to me. I liked to play with my swing ball, even though it could be frustrating sometimes. Marbles are another toy that have fallen out of favor. I used to play with those a lot and took them to school for recess. Finally, I had a boomerang which actually worked. I’d stand in the street, throw it and by some miracle, it always came back. So there we are. 10 toys to beat a computer game, any day.
